Uni Life Advice

A bit of a different one from me today, I'll admit. With my first year of uni rolling into a close tomorrow at 4.30pm with my last exam, I thought I'd share with you my experiences and advice, whether you're off to start uni in the coming September or if you've already gone through these experiences..

I should explain a little first of all about my halls of residence. I am in the cheapest of the cheap accommodation. Shared bathroom and toilets and kitchen between about 20 people. It sounds worse than it actually is. So here are my top tips and advice for uni life in first year.

1) Don't expect to sleep. Seriously.
Don't expect to sleep much in the first couples of 'Freshers Week'. Naps will be you're friend during this time. Don't fall asleep in a public place- you will be abused.
I was the unfortunate person to have the bedroom next to the kitchen so noise was an issue for me. Halls, by law, have to have fire doors. That slam. Loudly.
And you will be woken up by your drunken flatmates returning from nights out. But you will probably do the same another night.

2) Expect to be ill.
At least once within the first semester. For most people, it's the dreaded 'Fresher's Flu', the burn out after 2 non-stop weeks.
On the other hand, learn reheating techniques. You will learn a lot in regards to what you can and cannot reheat. If not, you will, like me, learn the hard way with food poisoning...

3) Your food is not safe.
Unless it's locked away. But that's effort and we all know it. If you leave it out, it will be eaten. Top victims are: milk, butter, tea, mayonnaise, ketchup, and cheese. Generous offerings of cake or biscuits disappear within seconds.

4) Washing up and laundry will suddenly become harder than doing a degree.
I'm not joking about the washing up. No one does it. Fortunately for you guys, I don't have photographic proof of how bad our kitchens get, especially on the weekends. Keeping a friendly relationship with the cleaner has definately been a struggle.
5) Expect banter and boozing
I live in mixed halls. Recounting of drunken mishaps the morning after will be performed to banterous standards, especially if they are particularly embarrassing. Banter also includes frape on a regular basis. You will never come out as gay as much as than in the your first year.
And no uni experience is completely without the copious alcohol. Just accept it. However, I can add that with a lot of my friends, especially girls, their tolerance to alcohol did gradually improve. But lightweights will always be lightweights unfortunately.
And students will still happily spend money on alcohol supplies than food.

6) Teaspoons make excellent doorstops

7) 9am is too early
Even if you are an early riser, no doubt uni will slowly turn you into a lazy lazy student. Suddenly getting up for a 9am lecture feels like getting up at 5am and you'd be odd to be out of bed before midday on the weekends.

8) Don't stress.
You will make friends. Definately don't worry about that! There's always something going on and there's always someone knocking round that's equally bored as you. Bond.

And yes, you will have exams and deadlines but in the end the first year doesn't count towards your degree, it's a trial run. In the end, you only need an overall mark of 40% to pass the year. So enjoy it for all its worth!

I hope this has been useful/informative and at least entertaining to read. Please leave me comments of your first years experiences, I'd love to read them!

Outfit Of The Day- Florescent Adolescent

My trusted H&M denim jacket all DIY-ed up!
Top- Primark
Leather Look Leggings- H&M

Two new things today! I had to post an outfit of the day, purely for this top I spotted and snapped up instantly from Primark. It's tie dye and neon! Absolute perfection. I also recently spotted a galaxy print one so keep your eyes peeled for them!

I also got some faux leather leggings that I've scouting for for a while and you can also see better the results of my DIY studding of my denim jacket.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm always so amazed by my hair atm! I know that sounds weird, but I'm currently in the process of growing it out and I can't believe how much it's grown recently. It's actually getting pretty long but springs all the way back up when  it dries so it really has to grow almost double the length! Very impacient to get past the shoulder stage but I might have a way to go still.

Anyway, keep an eye out for more OOTD's- I've snapped up some little buys recently!

DIY- Studded Denim Jacket

In keeping with current trends, I too have gone a bit loco for studding. But seeing that it usually hikes the price of an item of clothing right up, I thought I would do a bit of DIY.

You can buy studs off eBay for super cheap. Mine came from Hong Kong within 10 days. All you need is time, patience and a steady hand. Pay attention to spacing when doing it. I underestimated where I wanted mine and now have little red dots where I marked it which I'm gonna scrub off.

Carefully, snip a hole into the fabric. It doesn't matter hugely if you over shoot it a little because with a bit of navy thread, it can be stitched up again. The studs just screw together, as you can see, so it's super easy and cheap to add a little bit more edge to a denim jacket.

I still have a few studs left so I'm eyeing up a dip dye jumper I have.
And let me know if you give it a go, I'd love to see the results!

Lately 002

1) Stealth at Thorpe Park (gave me whiplash) 2) Starbucks 3) Drinking Starbucks
4) Little yellow ducky! 5) Biggest procrastination ever 6) Night out
7) Tattoo design 8) Fruit salad 9) My campus

Just a few snaps from recent life although there's not much going on at the moment now that exam period is rolling round. I've just finished a 2000 word essay so I'm bouncing with joy having finished that at least. And the sun is out so we're all having a bbq later. Good times.

Have a good one!

Outfit Of The Day feat. Fuschia Candy Pop Trousers

Jacket- H&M
Top and Trousers- Zara
Earrings: Topshop
Lipstick- Natural Collection in Rosebud

Yay sunshine! I've been dying to wear these trousers out on a sunny day ever since I bought them in Zara about a month ago. And I even persuaded my boyfriend to take the pictures outside. I did feel like I was wearing a glorified pyjama set but they're super comfy and I can't wait to wear them even more in hotter weather.

I wore it with my denim jacket but it would look even better with a black blazer or leather biker jacket (which I'm saving up for- I feel it's a necessity I'm lacking in my wardrobe!) I'm planning to stud my denim jacket with some studs I bought off ebay so I will be sure to take pictures and post it when they get here!

I also included a pic snap of my face today. I was getting really bad reflection off my glasses if I took it outside so excuse the messy room behind me! I wanted to share with you my current lipstick obsession which is Natural Collection in Rosebub. It's the perfect your-lips-but-better shade for me and it wasn't too strong to be clashing with my trousers.

Hoping for good weather over the weekend
Have a good one!

Emergency Nail Repair

So yesterday, I accidently managed to slam my nail into a closing door and consequently ripped my whole in half. You know the absolute panic you get when you rip a nail at the edge about half way down? Hurt so bad.

But never fear, there is a quick and simple tip that will keep your nail safe from ripping any further!

And that's all you need. Simply rip a bit of tea bag paper off and place it over the offending snag in your nail and then coat it in a clear or nail strengthening nail polish. So, it looks and feels a bit weird but with a bit of gentle buffing and a coat of colour, no ones any the wiser. I also much prefer doing this than wrapping a plaster awkwardly round my finger just for it to fall off 5 minutes later.

So yes, sorry for the picture of my poor manky thumb but it was a handy tip that I thought would be worth sharing with all of you.
Hope  it's of some use

Product Review: Soap And Glory Peaches And Clean Cleansing Milk

My much beloved Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser is coming to its end and, whilst I was considering repurchasing it, I thought I might as well change it up and try something new. So when I was trawling the Internet, I came across some pretty positive reviews about this and at only £7, it's really not that expensive and I've always liked Soap And Glory skincare.

And rightly so. I really really like this stuff. It's very gentle and leaves my skin feeling super soft. I like to leave it on my face for a few minutes so that it has a chance to soak in and do its job. And I cannot explain how divine the smell is. If you're like me and love fruity smells, you will like this too because as the name suggests, it smells of peachy peachy goodness.

I was also impressed with how good it was at taking my make up off. I wear a lot of eye liner and mascara and I'm beginning to really hate using make up wipes because the rubbing tends to pull my eyelashes out :( But this did the job pretty darn well! I wouldn't say it was as good as the Liz Earle because I think the muslin cloth did a lot of the work also but it all came off and importantly, there was no stinging my eyes. Thumbs up.

As for keeping my skin, I can't really say as my skin's been behaving as of late apart from one hormonal beastie that appeared on my chin a week ago. But I suppose you could say it's doing a good job keeping it clear.

Anyway, that's just my two cents on a potential cheaper alternative to the Liz Earle cleanser.
Hope you're all doing well. I've got a 2000 word essay still to write.
Until next time

Now I have to admit I'm not much of a nail varnish person. I own about 6 colours in total but a while back, I treated myself to 3 MUA nail polishes and this ModelsOwn Pro one. It's aptly named pinky grey but I think it has far more of a lilac undertone and for a nail varnish, it actually smells quite nice which is rather unusual.

For some reason, Blogger throws a fit occasionally with my images and even though the top image is landscape when viewing it on my computer, Blogger puts it in as portrait and I don't quite know why. If anyone can shed some light on this, please tell me and I will be v grateful!

Anyway, I'm off to do some Spanish revision- joy of joys.
Have a nice day!
